ABOUT J. MIKE FERRIS PA-C
J. Michael Ferris, preferably Mike, is a native Texan, born in Corpus Christi and raised in Bandera. Soon after high school he obtained his paramedic license in 1998, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1999. He worked for 9 years in the Emergency Room at various hospitals in San Antonio and surrounding area but called St. Luke’s Baptist his home. In 2007, he graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a masters degree in Physician Assistant studies. He has been with Dr. Atkins ever since. When he started at the practice in 2007, he focused on addressing the needs of our allergy patients by implementing the allergy sublingual immunotherapy program. Although Mike focuses on our allergy patients, he is able to work with all of our patients and their various ENT issues.

In addition to working in our clinic, Mike has many interests including teaching and consulting. He is an adjunct professor at UT Health San Antonio teaching ENT/allergy to PA students by precepting during their clinical rotations. Mike worked as a consultant for Allergy Labs in Oklahoma City, helping ENT physicians throughout the U.S. implement an allergy treatment program in their practice through onsite training. He also worked for the Department of Defense as a contracted PA tasked to perform readiness exams on National Guard troops in various states throughout the country as well as performing disability exams on our veterans.

Mike chose the specialty ENT/Allergy because he suffered for years with sinus and allergy problems. He knows how miserable one can feel when they are dealing with these chronic conditions and wants to improve every patient’s quality of life.

When he is not at the office, he enjoys spending his time with his wife and son and working on projects around his home. Although he does not go often, Mike also enjoys to fish and hunt.
